Bunkface to rock Hong Kong

Indie-rock band Bunkface are representing the country at the first Hong Kong Asian-Pop Music Fair (HKAMF).

The event, modelled after the popular Eurovision song contest, will be held on March 23 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Bunkface's singer Sam said the band were honoured, yet humbled, to have been selected to represent Malaysia at this event.

“We will do our best to make Malaysia proud. We feel really excited to be part of this event and we hope that this could help us go mass market in Asia," he said.

Lead guitarist Paan said,"We want to take Malaysian music to the Asian region, and finally the world stage!”
Bassist Youk said the band are not sure how many songs they will be playing yet.
"But there is good chance, we'll play Prom Queen. We'll be practicing for the next few weeks," he told The Daily Chilli.

Bunkface are a trio with Shamsul Annuar (Sam), Ahmad Farhan Hashim (Paan) and Muhammad Farouk Jaafar (Youk).

They will be  participating at HKAMF with their permanent sessionists, Ezanear Bin Baba Ahmad (Ejam) - drummer and Mohd Faiz Hazizi Bin Arlis - keyboardist.

The HKAMF is organised by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (Hong Kong Group) Limited with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, to discover the next superstar from Asia.
Bunkface will be competing with bands from Asia including China, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

The audience at HKAMF is expected to be 7,000.

The Recording Industry Association of Malaysia chairman Norman Abdul Halim said Bunkface were selected because they were a young and creative band that had won many awards.

In 2010, Bunkface won 5 awards - including two Anugerah Industri Muzik (AIM) awards - Best Rock Song (for Situasi) and Kembara, a special award that recognises overseas performances.
Bunkface have performed at events in the United Kingdom and Australia..
The band also won the Anugerah Bintang Popular 2010 Most Popular Duo/Group award. - TheDailyChilli
