Orange County District Attorney Frank Phillips said Friday that no one but Lashanda Armstrong is responsible for the deaths. She drove into the river Tuesday night in Newburgh, 60 miles north of New York City.
Armstrong died, along with 5-year-old Landen Pierre, 2-year-old Lance Pierre and 11-month-old Laianna Pierre. Ten-year-old La'Shaun Armstrong escaped the sinking van and survived.
Jean Pierre, the father of the three dead children, had been questioned Tuesday. He was charged in February with endangering the welfare of a child when one of the children was found wandering the streets half-dressed. - AP
