KLANG: Doctors treating a 13-year-old girl who was rushed to HospitalTengku Ampuan Rahimah's emergency ward were shocked to discover the extent of injuries found on her body. They also believe that she had undergone two abortions.
She had a broken left arm, burn marks on her palm and her entire body, including her private parts, was scalded with hot water.
Scars on one of her legs also suggested that she had been tied up and there was an iron-shaped burn mark on her back.
A woman who was taking care of the girl has been arrested and placed under remand until Tuesday.
It is learnt that the girl was left under the care of the woman at Perdana Villa Apartment in Taman Sentosa near here when her lorry driver father was away at work.
On numerous occasions, neighbours who heard a girl's screams had alerted the police but they could not locate her.
At about 8pm on Friday, the caretaker took the girl to a children's shelter in Pandamaran to be looked after for a while.
Grace Stephen, 43, who runs the shelter, told The Star that she had noticed fresh injuries on the girl's head.
“I questioned the woman but she was evasive. She claimed the girl had been naughty and was hit by her father.
“However, I did not believe her explanation especially when I saw that the girl could barely walk and had visible injuries on her hands, face and scalding marks on her neck,” she said.
It is learnt that the injuries on the girl were inflicted over the past four months and that she was traumatised by the time Grace met her.
“She was in so much pain. I was so traumatised by the extent of her injuries that I could not sleep,” she said.
South Klang OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Mat Yusop confirmed the case, adding that a police report was lodged at about 10.50pm on the same day.
The police would record a statement from the girl, who is warded at the hospital's intensive care unit, when her condition improves. - theStarOnline
