MELBOURNE: Malaysians are among 38 detainees remaining on the run after breaking out of Immigration detention centres.
"As at Feb 28 this year, 113 clients at Immigration detention facilities had absconded since August 2008," the Department of Immigration and Citizenship said in response to a question from West Australian senator Michaelia Cash.
"Seventy-five clients were relocated and the remaining 38 are still at large."
The Australian Associated Press said details of the 38 were not outlined in the answer so it was not possible to know whether they were visa overstayers, asylum seekers or other types of detainees.
Seven of them caught have since been removed from Australia. The missing nationals listed are from Malaysia, India, New Zealand, Vietnam, Britain, Palestine and China. -- Bernama
