JOHOR BARU: A salesman’s sharp eye and quick thinking helped him and his niece escape certain death when the boom pole of a crane came crashing from an elevated expressway being built near the new Johor Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex (CIQ).
Ong Guan Choon, 43, was driving along Jalan Stulang Darat at 8.45am yesterday when the incident happened.
“We were stuck in a traffic jam when I noticed things dropping from the road being built overhead.
“I felt that something was not right and immediately told my niece to get out of the car. As we were running, we saw the boom pole fall right in front of our vehicle, landing just inches away,” said Ong.
The back windscreen of the car was shattered and the car’s roof was slightly dented.
Ong, his niece and the crane driver escaped unhurt.
The crane was on the elevated Eastern Dispersal Link Expressway (EDL) when the driver lost control.
Malaysian Resources Corp Bhd (MRCB), which is undertaking the construction of the EDL, said they were investigating the incident. - theStarOnline
