PETALING JAYA: Police arrested a couple who brought a dead 26-year-old foreign maid with a variety of bruises, old and new, to the hospital and are investigating the husband and wife for murder.
Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Mohd Adnan Abdullah said Monday that police were alerted after the woman, from a neighbouring country, was brought into the University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) at 7.50am on Sunday.
“The woman was pronounced dead on arrival,” he said.
“We found that the woman had entered the country legally and was working as a maid since Dec 2008,” he told reporters at a press conference in the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters.
“A post mortem performed on Sunday evening revealed that the woman had both recent bruises and old scars on her back, forehead, and limbs,” he said, adding that the cause of the woman's death was yet to be determined.
SAC Mohd Adnan said that police detained the married couple, in their 50's, after they came to the Seapark Police Station to lodge a police report.
“We have remanded both of them till June 11 to facilitate investigations into the case,” he said.
He added that case has been classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which provides the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.
He also urged anyone with information on the case to contact the police at 03-55145222 or visit the nearest police station. - theStarOnline
