KOTA BARU: A factory technician based in Bangi, Selangor, has filed a RM320,000 suit against his ex-fiancee for cancelling their wedding at the last minute.
Nik Mustafa Nik Daud, from Kampung Jedok Tuan, Tanah Merah, named Azlina Mohamed, 27, as the sole defendant in the suit. Azlina, who is originally from Kampung Nibong, also in Tanah Merah, is now a fast food outlet manager in Kuala Lumpur.
The writ of summons was filed by his lawyer, Mohd Ridzuan Muhamad, at noon at the High Court registrar here yesterday. Nik Mustafa, 30, was present at the court with his parents and family members.
In the affidavit, Nik Mustafa said they were engaged on May 1 with the wedding ceremony to be held at the bride's house on June 8, followed by a reception at his house two days later.
Nik Mustafa said all the preparations had been made, including getting approvals from the relevant authorities. Invitation cards had been sent to 1,000 guests but the wedding was cancelled a week before.
He said the cancellation had caused a lot of distress and loss to him, besides damaging his reputation and bringing him shame in the eyes of guests, which included family members, friends and neighbours.
Nik Mustafa, is claiming RM200,000 in general damages, exemplary damages of 100,000, special damages of RM4,457.53 and a one-off payment of RM17,100 for costs sustained and other relief from the court.
Nik Mustafa also wants Azlina to make a public apology in a Malay newspaper for three consecutive days. - NST
