Girl saved from abductors

BESUT: A 15-year-old girl shopping for groceries was abducted before her father’s eyes by a group of three men, one of whom later proposed to her.
The 36-year-old father’s quick action in alerting authorities about her abduction, which police believed was to turn her into a sex slave, saw them swooping in on the men five hours later.
In the incident at 9.15pm on Friday, the girl had been buying groceries at a sundry shop in Kuala Besut here when she was bundled into a car by the abductors, who included a 17-year-old boy.
The father, who was waiting on his motorcycle nearby, ran to her rescue upon hearing her screams, but the car sped off.
He tried to chase after the car but failed to keep up and lodged a report at the Kuala Besut police station.
Police mobilised a special task force and managed to track down the abductors to a house in Kampung Gong Manok, Pasir Puteh in Kelantan at about 2.30am yesterday.
The girl said that during her five-hour ordeal, one of her abductors had asked her to marry him.
“I knew one of them. In fact, he even sent me text messages and called me a few days earlier. He is the one who asked me to marry him,” she said, adding that she could not understand why the men were so desperate.
“I heard from their conversation that they were going to do ‘things’ to me. I’m so relieved nothing happened,” she said, expressing her gratitude to the police for her rescue.
She said she had hidden in an abandoned house after escaping from the men in Pasir Puteh, adding that she was lucky they had forgotten to take away her handphone.
“I then contacted the police. I hope to put this incident behind me,” she said.
Her father said he suspected that the men had been planning the abduction as he had seen the suspects’ car being driven around their neighbourhood for the past few days.
Besut OCPD Supt Kamaruddin Zakaria said police had detained two people, aged 25 and 17.
“The victim was unharmed but she has been sent to Besut Hospital for a medical examination. We believe the suspects had abducted her to be used as a sex slave,” he said, adding that they had also seized the car used in the crime.
“A hunt for the third suspect is under way. We hope to nab the culprit soon,” said Supt Kamaruddin.
He urged anyone with information to contact the police at 09-635 4744 or 09-635 4745. - theStarOnline
