KUANTAN: Two tankers collided eight nautical miles north off Pulau Tioman yesterday morning, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) said.
Nineteen crew members from MT Cendanawati were rescued after the collision with MT Cosmic 10, said Maritime Captain Syd Mohd Fuzi Syd Hasan, MMEA's northern maritime region operations director.
Cendanawati, which was carrying 1,600 tonnes of lubricant, was on its way to Indonesia from Thailand when the collision occurred at 5am.
Syd Mohd Fuzi said the collision slightly damaged the Cendanawati while the Cosmic 10 was able to continue with its journey.
"The crew of Cendanawati was rescued by the Lady Anyvisia, which was about three nautical miles from the incident at that time," he said.
Cendanawati's 45-year-old captain was slightly injured with the other crew members were unhurt. -- Bernama
