Miss Universe Malaysia 2011 Deborah Henry, who missed getting into the Top 16 of the Miss Universe finals, is still confident a Malaysian woman will bring back the crown some day.

She said, “Malaysia’s time will come. I’m sure of it.”

Deborah told The Daily Chilli this after the Miss Universe pageant in Sao Paolo. A very tired Deborah said, “I felt so much love from so many Malaysians and international fans alike. They recognised the hard work and effort that I have put in towards making my country proud."

Deborah has no regrets and is grateful for the experience and is thankful to all those who supported her.

Andrea Fonseka, the national director of Miss Universe Malaysia Organisation, who accompanied Deborah on the trip, said she was shocked that she didn’t get into the Top 16.

"We expected more," she said. However, Fonseka said most of the contestants were also equally shocked.

"They hugged her and couldn’t believe that Deborah was not included," said Fonseka.

“The important thing about the whole experience is Deborah actually got a lot of Malaysians united in support of her, which hasn’t happened in a while,” Fonseka added.

The crown for the Miss Universe 2011 went to Angola's Leila Lopes, who beat 88 other contestants.

Also, for the first time in national history, a reality show that details the selection process of Miss Universe Malaysia 2012, is in the works.

19 candidates selected from over a thousand hopefuls around Malaysia willl stay together for over a month, where they will taught make-up and grooming and put through several tests.

An unspecified number of girls will be eliminated through the six-episode reality show, with the remaining competing for the crown at a gala night on Nov 10.

"With 19 girls under one roof, there's bound to be drama," said 20-year-old contestant Juanita Ramayah.

"But if there any drama, I would be the calm one to mediate it," said the communications student.
