KAPAR: A finance executive was mowed down by a robber, in her own car, during a robbery outside her home in Jalan Kapar here on Monday evening.
Teoh Lay Moi, 51, succumbed to her injuries an hour after she was knocked down and dragged for about 180m by the robber, who fled in her Toyota Altis.
North Klang district police chief Superintendent Mohamad Shukor Sulong said the incident happened about 7pm as Teoh was opening the front gate of her house after returning from work.
"The robber confronted her and pushed her aside before jumping into the driver's seat.
"The woman screamed for help. Her husband rushed to her aid."
The robber then floored the accelerator, ramming the car into the couple. Teoh was pinned under the car and was dragged away. She died on the way to Sri Kota Hospital in Klang.
Her husband, Koh Siew Ming, 57, sustained minor injuries and received outpatient treatment.
Koh said his wife's death was fated but hoped police would nab the culprit soon.
A neighbour, who declined to be identified, said she initially thought the screams from the victim's house were because of a fight between the couple.
"Everything happened so fast. I saw the car driving by fast. Most of the people at the scene thought the vehicle was being repossessed.
"I only realised something was amiss when I saw Teoh's body sprawled on the road," the neighbour said, adding that the couple had a 20-year-old son who was not at home at the time of the incident.
The suspect is believed to be a local. - NST
