ALOR STAR: When Mat Zain Mahmud sulked and left his house due to a dispute with one of his sons last Tuesday, none of his family members thought it would be the last time they would see him.

However, their worst fears came true when police found the body of the 80-year-old cow breeder near their house in Kampung Kubang Lintah in Kodiang, 45km from here yesterday.

A team of 15 policemen found Mat Zain's body, fully dressed, in a secondary jungle, 500m away from his house at 11am.

Based on the condition of the body, Kubang Pasu district police chief Superintendent Ibrahim Mohd Yusof said the missing man had been dead for more than 24 hours.

"There were bite marks, maybe by wild animals, on the left hand of the victim.

"However, we will wait for the post -mortem results to ascertain the cause of death," he said, ruling out any element of foul play in the case.

A relative, Mohd Ani Yahya, 67, said he learnt that Mat Zain had left the house after he was disappointed with one of his five children, who had sold his cow.

He said Mat Zain had seven heads of cattle and had no intention of selling them to others.

"We began to worry after Mat Zain did not return for more than three days.

"Feeling something bad had happened, one of his children lodged a missing person's report at the Kubang Pasu district police headquarters last Thursday." - NST
