KEPALA BATAS: Ariver outing for a group of 15 friends turned tragic when one of them died and another was feared drowned in Sungai Muda, near here.

Mohd Hafiz Mustapa and Muhammad Harraz Bukhori, both 13, were swept away by strong currents in the 5pm incident on Thursday.

"I saw Hafiz's head bobbing up and down.

"I tried to save him, but he was too far away.

"He then vanished from sight," the victim's friend, Mohd Fakri Shamsudin, 12, said.

Rescue efforts were hampered by strong currents and Hafiz's body was only found yesterday morning, not far from where the teenagers were swimming.

Fire and Rescue Department personnel have stepped up their search for Harraz. - NST
