KUALA TERENGGANU: A family's wedding preparations for their daughter went up in smoke yesterday afternoon.
"We will have to postpone my daughter's wedding as all our things for the big day were destroyed in the fire," said Zainab Salleh, 47, as she held up a handful of wedding invitation cards.
The cards were all that were left after a noon fire razed her family's home in Kampung Bukit Tunggal here.
A tearful Zainab said she was cooking lunch when her younger daughter Nur Adlin Qayum Asli, 18, shouted that her room was on fire.
"However, the fire spread quickly and we had to run out to save our lives," she said.
Nur Adlin said she was typing on her laptop in the living room when she saw smoke billowing from her room.
"I shouted for my mother and tried to douse the flames with water but it just spread quickly."
Her father Asli Baring, 48, was away at work at the Kuala Terengganu City Council office when he was informed of the fire.
Kuala Terengganu fire station chief Kamarul Bieza Mohd Kassim said three fire engines with 20 firefighters were despatched to the scene.
"The house was razed when we reached the scene but we managed to stop the fire from spreading to the adjacent houses." - NST
