American One Direction gets death threats

The American One Direction.
The American One Direction.

The American boy band suing One Direction for “stealing” their name revealed last night they have received death threats from British fans.

The California five-piece demanding a million dollars for alleged copyright breaches say they have faced a furious backlash from followers of Simon Cowell’s X Factor heart-throbs.

They claim to have been inundated with messages ranging from threats to KILL to warnings they will be CHASED with “spoons and carrots” — a reference to 1D in-jokes.
The US band’s frontman Sean O’Leary said the worst had been aimed at his dad Dan, who manages them.
Sean, 18, said: “There has been so much hate mail, like people threatening to cut our b***s off.
“The one that stands out for me is a girl saying she wanted to kill my father.”
Sean spoke as he and bandmate Scott Nagareda, 18, met their lawyer in Los Angeles.
They vowed to continue their legal battle against the British 1D — currently in Australia — which was revealed in The Sun yesterday.
They insist they have been using the name since 2009 and that UK fans who think they are copycats are “confused”.
The US band admitted they had “huge respect” for the British lads — but that their own music is better.
The British 1D’s record chiefs said they have been forced to defend the lawsuit.
