Red Bull Rookies female drivers to compete with male drivers
PETALING JAYA: Red Bull Malaysia launched its 2012 edition of the Red Bull Rookies Driver Search today and announced for the first time since its inception in 2007, the Red Bull Rookies Female Drivers will compete against an all male team.
The brand also introduced the anchor drivers of the female and male teams, Melissa Huang and Mark Darwin respectively, who will lead the teams at the Sepang 1,000Km (S1K) race, which will be held 6 – 8 December 2012.
Red Bull Malaysia executive director, Jyn Wee said, “I am delighted to announce that we will be searching for potential male drivers to join Mark and female drivers to join Melissa from 3 countries to compete with each other.”
Melissa and Mark were chosen as anchor drivers because they had demonstrated their personality and passion for racing, to lead the teams and further develop the Red Bull Rookies Programme.
Melissa actively juggles her love of motorsports and marathons with her full time job as a Nurse in Singapore while Mark enjoys drag racing and is focusing on completing his Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering in Taylor’s University.
Both unveiled the Satria Neo race cars which the teams will be racing at the launch.
This year’s rookie programme will include more fun elements to create a healthy competition between the teams through Challenges during the training prior to the S1K race. The first challenge was held today where Mark and Melissa competed against each other 1-on-1 on an Xbox 360 Kinect game. The teams will be facing more Challenges where the winner will get advantages during the race.
Red Bull Malaysia is looking for individuals aged between 18-25 years of age to be selected for the team from Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam and Singapore.
They may register at the Red Bull Rookies Driver Search Roadshows which will offer several activities to test their race craft, fitness, mental acuity, personality, cultural flexibility, media and presentation skills and other attributes.
Another interesting development is the online registration of participants where elements of a FAST FORWARD and a Wild Card Selection Round based on the online community’s selection will enable these individuals to gain access to the later rounds of selection.
After a grueling round of elimination, 2 male and 2 female drivers will be chosen to join Mark and Melissa’s teams respectively.
Those interested to register may do so at the Red Bull Rookies Driver Search Roadshows to be held on 14 – 15 April 2012 at Berjaya Times Square, Kuala Lumpur, 20 – 22 April 2012, at 1st Avenue Penang, Penang, 12 – 15 May 2012 in Singapore and 18 – 20 May 2012 in Brunei Darussalam. -- Bernama
