Villagers build quarters for teachers

BELURAN: Kampung Nangoh folk near here took the initiative to build a teachers' quarters at Sekolah Kebangsaan Nangoh.

Senior school assistant Mahmud Ahmad said the initiative was taken to save costs from the allocation provided by the Beluran District Education Office.
"The allocation was just enough to buy the building materials. So, the Parent-Teacher Association agreed to build the teachers' quarters through gotong-royong," he said. Work began on Sunday and it was expected to be completed in two weeks.
Mahmud said there were only two quarters at the school, which could not meet the needs of the 20 teachers.
He said some of the teachers had to rent houses away from school, involving a commute of two to three hours. - Bernama
