Rescued infant to be treated at Klang hospital

PETALING JAYA: The newborn found and rescued by rubbish collectors in Kota Kemuning will be treated at the Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah in Klang for a couple of weeks.
Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Zahedi Ayob said the baby had been sent to Columbia Asia Hospital for initial treatment before being transferred to the hospital in Klang.
“We expect her to receive care at the hospital for at least two weeks,” he said, adding that the baby was healthy.
As the police had yet to identify the baby’s mother or next of kin, ACP Zahedi said she would be handed over to the state Welfare Department upon her discharge.
“The department will then choose the best possible orphanage. We were told that this could take quite a while,” he said.
ACP Zahedi said they would need help from the public to identify the baby’s mother, urging them to contact the nearest police station.
“Those responsible for dumping this baby must be brought to justice. She deserves better,” he said.
Selangor Welfare Department director Nik Omar Nik Ab Rahman said it had sent its officers to the hospital.
“The baby will be taken into our custody once she is discharged. She will be sent to our home for children in Klang as her parents or relatives have not been identified,” he said, adding that the case had been classified under Section 20 of the Child Act.
“Any action taken will be in the baby’s best interest.” - theStarOnline
